As Maccabi Tel Aviv is getting ready for the Euroleague premier, Alex Tyus may even end up parting ways with the Euroleague champions. Tyus missed the preparation game against the Nets in Brooklyn due to an ankle injury, he hasn’t practiced since then and he is complaining about pains in his ankle.

And now the plot thickens. According to Eurohoops sources, the medical exams of the player are clear and have shown that he should be ready to return to action. This situation has raised many eyebrows among Maccabi‘s management and even the possibility of the team cutting its ties with the player can’t be excluded.

Tyus, a key player of Maccabi in last season’s title winning run, was a summer target of Real Madrid, however Maccabi, having a contract with him for this season, didn’t discuss the possibility of letting him go. It’s an important detail, since Tyus was on the exit door also at the start of last season – with Olympiacos being then his suitor – and he stayed with the team because of Shawn James’ injury.

He was one of the few front line players left in the roster and he took advantage of his chance in the game against Red Star. Like his team, he exploded in the Final Four, but he didn’t get a new deal with Maccabi this summer, probably with a better salary and a contract extension, despite winning the Euroleague.
