With 21 points and five rebounds from Klemen Prepelic, Slovenia beat Georgia 79-68 in Zagreb to earn their first victory in Group C.

Slovenia’s head coach, Jurij Zdovc, said afterwards: “It’s not an easy game. The only plan was to win. There was no Plan B. We played with a lot of heart. I don’t want to say anything about the last few minutes. I want to congratulate my players.”

After a close first quarter (17-13), the Slovenians outscored their opponents 24-13 in the second period to end the first half with a 15-point advantage (41-26).

In the fourth quarter, Georgia cut the deficit from 19 points to 10 (78-68) but it was too late for Igor Kokoskov’s squad, which suffered its second loss in the tournament.

The Serbian coach said: “I don’t think we played bad. I think we competed tonight. The Slovenians played better. The have a lot of talent, they played better and made shots.”

Jaka Klobuchar added 20 points for the winners, while Tornike Shengelia scored 21 for Georgia.
