Another legendary player of an iconic cycle for the Spanish national team has announced his retirement. It’s the case of Sergio Llull, who said goodbye to La Roja at the FEB Museum in Alcobendas, Madrid.
“I’m nervous. I’d rather have the ball in my hands with only six seconds left. I’m closing out my time as a national team player. It’s been an honor to wear this jersey for so many summers. It’s been an incredible journey. I’ve given it my all… and some parts of my body,” he commented.
He concluded his career as a Spanish national team player with 173 games played, winning seven medals. Four in EuroBasket (bronze in 2013, gold in 2009, 2011, and 2015), one at the FIBA World Cup (gold in 2019), and two at the Olympic Games (silver in 2012, bronze in 2016).
“I’ve met an incredible generation of players who were idols, whom I watched on television and with whom I ended up sharing experiences on the pitch. I feel very privileged. The We is always more important than the Me,” he also added, as reported by AS.
Talking about Sergio Scariolo, Real Madrid‘s legendary guard had beautiful words. “He gave me the opportunity to be part of this team. I can never repay the trust he gave me”, he said.
“I’ve really enjoyed it with my teammates. We’ve achieved many successes together. But the most important thing is the journey we’ve taken: when you enjoy something, it’s always easier to achieve your goals,” Sergio Llull ultimately commented, in front of many of his former teammates.
