France could be without another key player at this summer’s EuroBasket. After Rudy Gobert’s confirmed absence, and reported of Victor Wembanyama, Evan Fournier is now also doubtful due to continued issues with his right ankle, according to L’Equipe.
The 32-year-old Olympiacos guard has been dealing with the injury for several months, and recently underwent a series of medical exams, including consultations with doctors in Germany. His participation in the tournament, scheduled from August 27 to September 14, is reportedly very uncertain.
If Fournier is ruled out, it would be the first time in his career that he misses a major international competition due to injury.
Despite the ankle problems, Fournier had a strong first season back in Europe after 12 years in the NBA. He averaged 16.1 points and 2.8 assists per game in the EuroLeague and scored 31 points in the semifinal against Monaco. Olympiacos lost that game but went on to win the Greek championship, with Fournier playing a key role in the finals against Panathinaikos.
