Donte DiVincenzo officially called up by the Italian national team

Italy’s preparing to compete at FIBA EuroBasket 2025, eager to do better than reaching the Quarter-Finals, their result at the last EuroBasket played in 2022.

In order to do so, Gianmarco Pozzecco’s team was able to involve a new asset for the Italian national team, as Donte DiVincenzo officially got Italian citizenship.

Today, he was inserted into the 18-man extended list ahead of the preparation for the biggest appointment of the summer.

Therefore, Italy now has two active players on their roster, with both Donte DiVincenzo and Simone Fontecchio, who are set to represent the country at the highest stage.

Danilo Gallinari was called up for what could be the last event of his career with the national team.

Other EuroLeague players like Nicolò Melli, Saliou Niang, Stefano Tonut, Matteo Spagnolo, Gabriele Procida, Saliou Niang, Momo Diouf, and Alessandro Pajola were called up.

Darius Thompson was also added to the players’ list at Gianmarco Pozzecco’s disposal, as he “has expressed his desire to wear the national team jersey as soon as the opportunity arises.”

Moreover, Italy symbolically decided to call up Achille Polonara, who is currently hospitalized as he was diagnosed with leukemia. The national team wants him to follow the group if health allows him.
