Vassilis Spanoulis, head coach of the Greek national team, has officially unveiled the 19-man preliminary roster ahead of preparations for EuroBasket 2025.
The selection includes several high-profile names, most notably Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kostas Sloukas, and Tyler Dorsey, signaling Greece’s ambition to return to the podium for the first time since 2009.
After missing both the 2023 FIBA World Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers, Sloukas is back in the national setup, offering leadership and experience in the backcourt. Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has expressed a deep desire to achieve success with the national team, will also return. His participation boosts Greece’s chances of making a deep run in the tournament.
Tyler Dorsey steps in as the team’s naturalized player, replacing Thomas Walkup, who has been ruled out due to a back injury.
However, several key players will not participate in the upcoming EuroBasket campaign. Giorgos Papagiannis, Nick Calathes, and Nikos Rogkavopoulos are all absent from the pre-selection list. Additionally, Thanasis Antetokounmpo has been left out due to ongoing recovery from injury and extended inactivity.

Spanoulis has also shown his intent to invest in the future by including standout performers from the recent FIBA U20 European Championship. Rising talents Neoklis Avdalas, Alexandros Samodurov, and Lefteris Liotopoulos have all been included in the senior team’s pre-selection, reflecting the coaching staff’s long-term vision.
In contrast, guards Michalis Lountzis and Dimitris Moraitis did not make the cut.
The team will begin its training camp on Monday, July 28, with the first friendly match scheduled for August 6 against Belgium. The Greek national team aims to build chemistry and momentum heading into the competition, with a clear objective of advancing past the group stage and contending for a medal.
With a strong mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent, Greece will look to re-establish itself as a powerhouse in European basketball.
