Veteran guard Zoran Dragic and center Ziga Daneu were cut from the roster of the Slovenian national team ahead of the 2025 EuroBasket.
“It was a difficult task after Sunday’s game against Germany,” said Slovenia coach Aleksander Sekulic. “In addition to Ziga Daneu, Zoran Dragic, a player who was one of the key members of the Slovenian national team for many years and significantly contributed to its greatest successes, also left the national team.”
Zoran Dragic, the younger brother of Slovenia legend Goran Dragic, had said that this would be his last summer with the national team and he’d like to finish his international career with a EuroBasket appearance. He became 36 in June.
Since 2011 when he made his debut with the Slovenian national team, Dragic had been present in every summer tournament except in 2017 when an injury kept him out of the EuroBasket run where his brother, Luka Doncic and the rest of the squad won the gold medal.
Doncic and Edo Muric have rejoined the Slovenia practices after skipping the trip to Manheim for the game vs. Germany.
Slovenia will be playing two preparation games on the road. On Friday, Doncic and co. will face Lithuania in Siauliai and then travel to Riga for a match against Kristaps Porzingis’ Latvia on Saturday.
On August 19, Slovenia is hosting Great Britain in Ljubljana.
