Following Zoran Dragic’s exit from the Slovenian national team heading to FIBA EuroBasket 2025, The Dragon has expressed his opinion

Zoran Dragic left Slovenia’s camp ahead of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 and won’t likely be playing in such a tournament anymore, having turned 36 earlier in the year.

His exit left an unclear scenario surrounding the small forward and his relationship with head coach Aleksander Sekulic, considering the reactions upon this news.

“I said goodbye to the national team myself, because after the match with Germany in Mannheim, the coach told me in a meeting at my request that I could no longer give anything to the team,” Dragic said to Sport Klub. “I accepted the decision, but I do not agree with it. I felt anger and great sadness.”

His brother Goran, named EuroBasket 2017 MVP as he conquered the gold medal alongside a young Luka Doncic, shared a picture of the famous character Pinochio, texting “head coach” on his IG Stories.

Obviously, the reference is clear, as the former Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns guard, who officially retired from International basketball in 2024, described Aleksander Sekulic as a liar.

Earlier in the day, Zoran Dragic’s wife also criticized the way her husband was moved away from the national team. “Dragic himself left this circus, run by a quasi-coach and incompetent management! He is just another player who was treated unfairly. The truth will come out sooner or later,” she said.

“This would probably be my last European championship. I’m proud to play for Slovenia. For sure, I hope that everything is going well. We’ll see,” he previously told Eurohoops.
