After Milan general manager Christos Stavropoulos, coach and president of basketball operations Ettore Messina, responded to Luka Doncic, who implied that Milan didn’t leave Josh Nebo and Vlatko Cancar play for Slovenia in the upcoming Eurobasket.
Speaking to SkySports, as Pianeta Basket reports, Messina explained that those two players are coming off injuries and also opened the door for them to play for their national team during the FIBA Windows, when they will be healthy.
As the veteran coach said, “Our GM Christos Stavropoulos expressed our position. Doncic forgot one very simple thing. Both Cancar and Nebo are recovering from very serious injuries that kept them out of the game for too long. I’m sure that at the end of the season, or even during the season when the FIBA windows will be open, if these guys are in a position to help Slovenia, they’ll forget what they said about Olimpia and will be grateful to Olimpia for having brought back two key players for their national team”.
It has to be noted that during the season, NBA players, due to scheduling conflicts, can’t play in the FIBA qualifiers, and with Cancar returning to Europe after signing with Milan, Slovenia, which in the past has suffered without Doncic in mid-season qualifiers, gets a very important asset for those games.
