The Greek Basketball Federation reacted to the speculation about Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo’s availability ahead of the EuroBasket amid reports and rumors regarding issues with his insurance.
As Eurohoops had reported, the Greek side was waiting for the written permission of the Bucks so that Giannis could have full-contact, 5 vs. 5 practices and play in preparation games.
The Federation’s position, that includes accusations of malicious intentions toward media, is as follows: “The Federation doesn’t bother with and doesn’t answer to anything malicious regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s participation with the national team that has been written in the last few days. All these circles that have created these are guided by “para-centers” that knew very well that everything they were saying and writing was lies. They manufactured a non-existent issue because their sole goal was to mislead public opinion and harm the unity and concentration of the national team with their lies. Unfortunately, it’s one more sample of some people using the national team to transmit their toxicity to basketball.”
Antetokounmpo, who has started full practices with the rest of the national team, is confirmed to make his summer debut against Latvia on Wednesday (20/8) in the opener of the Akropolis Tournament held in Athens.
The Federation posted the following highlight from his last practice.
