Uroš Trifunović will not be part of Serbia’s national team at this summer’s EuroBasket.
Due to injury issues, he missed the friendly games and did not travel with the squad, making it expected that he would not be among the 12 players representing Serbia, according to Meridian Sport. Trifunović is now heading to Tel Aviv to join his new club, Maccabi.
According to Meridian Sport, Alen Smailagić will also miss the final cut of the Serbian national team and will soon join his new club, Virtus Bologna.
Like Trifunović, Smailagić missed the national team’s preparation games due to injury. His strong season in Kaunas, however, convinced coach Duško Ivanović to bring him to the Italian club.
The Serbian squad is now down to 15 players, a week before EuroBasket: Aleksa Avramović, Bogdan Bogdanović, Dejan Davidovac, Ognjen Dobrić, Marko Gudurić, Nikola Jokić, Nikola Jović, Stefan Jović, Balša Koprivica, Vanja Marinković, Vasilije Micić, Nikola Milutinov, Filip Petrušev, Nikola Topić, and Tristan Vukčević.
Serbia’s final tune-up before EuroBasket comes on Thursday against Slovenia in a packed Belgrade Arena, with the team’s first EuroBasket game scheduled for August 27 in Riga.
