Spain is coming off as the reigning champions and will enter FIBA EuroBasket 2025 with huge anticipation, despite having some key absences on the roster.

What’s pretty sure is that Santi Aldama will play a big part in Sergio Scariolo’s team’s ambition heading into the competition. He spoke to FIBA about the approaching EuroBasket challenges.

“Playing for Spain is an honor bigger than anything. Obviously, playing basketball as a professional is something that I’ve always wanted to do, but playing for my country is something that goes beyond that. Being able to represent it at the European stage is something very important for me,” he opened.

They will play the Group Phase in Limassol, facing Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Speaking of the Greek national team, he already faced them at the Olympics.

“It was a very intense game in the Olympics, and when you tend to play a team for a second time, it gets rougher because you’ve played them once, there’s existing friction, and it only gets harder. We’re excited for the challenge,” Aldama said about such a game.

Ultimately, he also spoke about Nikola Jokic. “He’s probably a combination of both [Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic”. He always makes the right read. If he doesn’t have the ball, it’s probably better for us,” he said.
