One of the feel-good stories of the first Eurobasket Round was the banner made by the Greek fans supporting Achille Polonara.
Polonara, one of the key players of Italy, has been battling with medical issues. He was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia, and he is currently hospitalized.
The tributes towards him and the support are global; his national team teammate, Marco Spissu, is competing while wearing Polonara’s number, and in the Eurobasket opener, the opposing Greek fans also demonstrated their support, chanting his name and holding a banner made for him.
Polonara acknowledged the gesture on his social media, making a story on his IG account and replying with a “thank you” in Greek.
Everyone wishes to see him back in good health, and Italian club Dinamo Sassari even has an open contract waiting for him when he can step on a court again.
