Missas was hired as the head coach at the last moment just on the 27th of July.  As he said after his arrival in Greece: “I didn’t hunt this position. There was a dead end. I was already part of the national team”. It remains unknown if he will keep his position as a technical advisor in the Greek basketball federation, a role he had in recent years, after being also named the technical director of Olympiacos women’s team.

The coach of the Greek u20 NT, Ilias Papatheodorou, and veteran coach Soulis Markopoulos who was until last season the head coach of PAOK are the two main candidates to replace him at the helm of the national team. The decision is expected to be announced soon as the Greek national team has to compete in November for the FIBA World Cup qualification.
