Dolomiti Energia Trento and head coach Paolo Galbiati will part ways at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The Italian club announced the decision on Friday, confirming recent rumors regarding the departure of the 41-year-old tactician.
“I decided to leave the club some time ago, before the Italian Cup,” noted Galbiati on Friday, referring to the midseason triumph in Coppa Italia.
The Italian play-caller is rumored to join Dreamland Gran Canaria after the end of his stint with Trento.
“I want to stress that my decision was definitely not affected by our day-to-day work,” he said without confirming the next step in his career.
“We would have preferred that certain rumors not come out now, but it is part of the game,” mentioned Galbiati, “Trento will always remain a very important piece of my life.”
With two games left in the 2024-25 Regular Season of Italy’s LBA UnipolSai, his side is tied for third place in the standings, behind a 20-8 record.
“We are here to bring attention back to what really matters, the end of the season, the last two games in the Regular Season, and the Playoffs,” underlined general manager Andrea Nardelli, announcing the upcoming exit of Galbiati, “At the end of the season, Paolo Galbiati will leave his position as head coach of Dolomiti Energia Trento. His decision is absolutely respected and fully fits into the club philosophy.”
“We decided to now formally announce a decision that has been made public for some time, but until now did not feel the need to communicate. We wanted and want to focus on the court and our amazing season,” he added.
Beyond domestic competitions, Trento also played in the 2024-25 installment of the BKT EuroCup and went 6-12 in Group A of the Regular Season.
“We are a club working under limited budgets, focusing on the growth of our players and coaches, and developing youngsters. We renewed with Paolo precisely because we noticed qualities we wanted, and we offered him the opportunity to work without the anxiety of immediate results,” Nardelli further explained the situation, “Long contracts are not a prison but a tool for stability and trust.”
Galbiati has been in charge of Trento since 2023. Earlier experience includes head-coaching spells with Vanoli Cremona, Biella, Auxilium Turin, Bernareggio, and Boffalora.
