Panionios continues to strengthen its roster with the addition of experienced Greek international guard Michalis Lountzis.
The 27-year-old joins the club after a strong 2024–25 season with Promitheas Patras, where he averaged 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in the Greek Basket League and Basketball Champions League.
Lountzis brings a wealth of experience, having played for top Greek clubs including Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Trikala, Lavrio, and Promitheas in two separate stints. He won multiple domestic titles, including three Greek League championships and six Greek Cups, while also making 47 EuroLeague appearances with Olympiacos from 2021 to 2024.
An active member of the Greek national team, Lountzis has represented his country in 33 senior games, including EuroBasket 2022 and the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Speaking after the signing, Lountzis expressed his excitement: “It’s a great honor to wear the Panionios jersey, a club with huge history. I grew up near Nea Smyrni and I know exactly what this team means. I’ll give everything I have and fight for every possession.”
He will join Markel Starks and Nikos Gkikas in the Panionios backcourt, as the club looks to re-establish itself in Greek basketball with a strong mix of experience and ambition.
