Aris Betsson is institutionalizing a return to the highest continental level, unveiling a structural and competitive roadmap aimed squarely at the EuroLeague.

During the introductory press conference of new head coach Vassilis Spanoulis on Monday, CEO Agapitos Diakogiannis signaled the club’s new era, revealing that the organization is actively being built from the ground up to support EuroLeague standards.

This ascent relies heavily on the immediate expansion of the historic Nick Galis Hall. Management announced a gradual 20% capacity increase, featuring a brand-new stand that will be operational by the start of the upcoming 2026–27 campaign in the BKT EuroCup and Greece’s Stoiximan GBL, pushing total seating to approximately 6,500. This upgrade directly aligns with ownership’s vision of an elevated audience experience, serving as a physical bedrock for their European aspirations.

“We are confident that we can start a new era, and we will do our best to build the strongest team we can, and we want to be competitive in the Greek championship, the EuroCup, and possibly the EuroLeague,” confirmed majority owner Richard Hsiao.

To spearhead this transformation on the court, general manager Nikos Zisis pulled off a monumental coup by appointing legendary European icon Spanoulis as head coach. Fresh off a stint with AS Monaco, the 43-year-old play-caller accepted the challenge after intense deliberations that initially carried a mere 0.1% chance of success.

Stepping into the arena that inspired generations of Greek basketball, the new head coach of the Thessaloniki outfit delivered a powerful statement of intent. “We all know why I came,” he stated. “I want to build a team with durability, and it will not be a firework display. There is motivation, a plan, and a vision for what we want to do.”

Fueled by complete financial consolidation and rapid infrastructure growth, Aris is systematically laying the solid foundations required to re-establish itself permanently among Europe’s royalty.
