According to the Croatian club the delay in the payments is not “an act of retaliation” but a result of Croatian laws.

In reaction to Eurohoops report about delays in payments of the non Croatian members of the team, Cedevita issued the following statement.

Any speculation about BC Cedevita not paying foreign players, especially as an act of retaliation or malice due to the latest changes in the management, are untrue, and can in fact only be a result of individual malice towards the club.

Any delays in payment are merely due to local labor laws and regulations, which take more time for foreign citizens to register as sportsmen employed in the country, or sometimes even the players’ indolence to provide all required documentation, all of which we have completed. At this moment, all the players who have fulfilled tehnical requirements for payment, have received one salary, and are expecting the second. The club’s management has talked to all of the players more than once and they are well aware of the procedures, and can trust all payments will be duely carried out.

Basketball club Cedevita has an impeccable reputation for fair treatment and paying its partners, contractors, customers, suppliers, and foremost employees in a timely manner, and in entirety of its contractual commitments. There has not been a case in the club’s history that BC Cedevita has not payed any player, domestic or foreign with no difference, any coach, or other employee of the club“.
