Fenerbahce Beko head coach Zeljko Obradovic, along with his family, will return to his native Serbia via a flight that the country’s government arranged in order to bring back Serbian citizens from Turkey amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We will bring Zeljko Obradovic and his family back with this plane,” Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said in the morning program of TV Happy, per Telegraf. He added that Serbian athletes in Turkey decided to stay where they are, for now.
Fenerbahce‘s players, coaching staff and administrative staff tested for coronavirus after some of the club’s members exhibited symptoms. The Turkish side said that none of its players require hospitalization while the test results haven’t been officially divulged.
Guard Kostas Sloukas has left Istanbul for Greece and the city of Thessaloniki and is currently in a 14-day home quarantine that the Greek government has ordered for every citizen of the country upon return.
The Turkish BSL League was the last basketball championship in Europe to shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak, a decision that was taken on March 19. Fenerbahce had played a BSL game behind closed doors vs. Tofas Bursa four days before the official postponement of the league.
After the match, and the win of his team, Obradovic didn’t want to go into game-related details, saying it’s “very difficult” to talk about basketball. The Serbian coach also congratulated the players of both teams.
