Former EuroLeague First Team selection Sonny Weems donated about 7,000 protective masks (K95) to the town of West Memphis in Arkansas, the place he was born and grew up in, to help in the fight against coronavirus, per Fox 13.

Weems, who is now playing in China, wanted the elderly population and low-income families to have priority in the mask distribution. “My grandmother works in the nursing home. She actually told me that she doesn’t have enough masks where she works and that kind of prompted me to go ahead and get it started,” Weems said. The donation was made via the player’s foundation “Weems World.”

Fox 13 reports that leaders of the West Memphis community consider Weems’ action as a move that “will save lives,” given the needs of the town and especially senior citizens.

Weems played in EuroLeague for such teams as CSKA Moscow, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Zalgiris Kaunas, and Anadolu Efes. He was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2014, when he played with CSKA.
