Crvena Zvezda team captain Branko Lazic believes that it would be better for this season to be shut down completely so that everyone focuses on getting ready for 2020-2021

“I agree with most of my colleagues who said that it might be smarter to end the season and simply proceed to preparations for the next season,” Lazic said to TV Prva, per Sporski Zurnal. “That this situation with the virus calms down and that we prepare even better for the next season so that the injuries we talked about don’t happen.”

Lazic and his Serbian teammates on Crvena Zvezda plus Nigerian-American center Michael Ojo (the only foreign player of the team currently in Belgrade) have gradually resumed practices. The reigning ABA League champions began training sessions in the open court of the Kalemegdan fortress on May 12 and later started practicing indoors a few days later.

On Saturday (23/5), Lazic, together with the captains of the rest of the EuroLeague teams, will participate in a teleconference meeting held by the organization regarding the scenarios that can enable the potential resumption of the season. A final decision is expected to be made on Monday (25/5) via voting by the 11 A-License clubs. Red Star isn’t included on those teams.

Regarding ABA, league executives have been saying that the competition is waiting to see if EuroLeague continues before making any decisions.
