Panathinaikos looks intent on leaving the EuroLeague and, if that happens, Partizan wants to claim that open spot.

Partizan Belgrade president Ostoja Mijailovic commented on Panathinaikos Athens officially informing EuroLeague on its intention to exit the competition and once again stated that the Serbian club is ready to join the league if a spot becomes available.

“It’s an opportune moment and Partizan wouldn’t want to stand between the EuroLeague and Panathinaikos. Let them solve the problem first, if they have one, and we will see about the rest,” Mijailovic said to Sport Klub when asked about the letter Panathinaikos sent to EuroLeague.

Partizan had informed EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu that they want to participate in next season’s EuroLeague. Mijailovic was hopeful that the team will receive a place among the 2019-2020 teams but EuroLeague decided to proceed with the same lineup. Partizan then chose to continue playing in EuroCup.

“In the letter, we sent to Bertomeu, we wrote that Partizan’s intentions are and what our goal is. There’s nothing disputable here. We are ready [if a vacancy appears]. We have repeated that several times and in the meantime nothing has changed,” Mijailovic said.
