The majority of Panathinaikos OPAP’s shares were officially transferred to Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the Greek professional sports committee announced Wednesday.

Manos Papadopoulos, the previous holder of 89.9% of the club’s shares, recently moved to Zenit Saint-Petersburg and could not remain the club owner, according to Euroleague Basketball rules. Consequently, Giannakopoulos now holds 89.9% of the shares, to be exact of the company ILIAMIA INVESTMENTS LIMITED, as noted in the press release.

The transfer completed was expected as the optimal path following the departure of the previous major shareholder and also Giannakopoulos intending to sell the Greens.
