ASVEL announced four additional COVID-19 cases earlier on Tuesday, two of them reporting feverish symptoms per the team’s statement, and as a result, the French side cannot compete for Round 3’s game against Panathinaikos OPAP, scheduled for later today. Seven team members were already affected by the virus, prior to the new cases and the entire team is quarantined.

As the French club confirmed, two more players presented high fever before the game so the minimum of eight fit members of the roster couldn’t be matched and it remains to be seen if the next game against Zvezda will be played or not.

It has not yet been specified whether the game will be rescheduled or canceled with a 20-0 victory for Panathinaikos. According to the Greek club, Panathinaikos asked for the game to be rescheduled, but according to EuroLeague’s COVID set of rules, a 20-0 win for the Greeks is expected.

Per EuroLeague:

The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 3 game between LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne and Panathinaikos OPAP Athens that was scheduled to be played on Tuesday, October 13, will not take place. Multiple players from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne have tested positive for COVID-19, leaving the team without the minimum eight players on the Authorisation List fit to play.

A procedure has been opened that will be evaluated by the Disciplinary Judge who will make a decision in due course in accordance with the 2020–21 Euroleague Basketball Special Regulations due to COVID-19.
