Olimpia Milano GM Christos Stavropoulos made an appearance on the Greek national television, reviewing the year behind and what he’s expecting from the upcoming Final Four.
Milano‘s opponent in the semis will be Barcelona and the Italian club GM gave the first-seeded squad the title of the favorite.
“Surely, the favorite is Barcelona. What I told the guys is that we are going to be happy. We will not let the match pass easily and we will do everything in our power to go ahead and play well. Barcelona has a lot of experience, but we will be ready too,” he said in an interview with ERT’s show “Jambol”.
One of the things Milano will count on, in order to overcome the odds, is the perfect balance of veterans and younger players, which has been something working out great so far.
“It was the combination of the experience of Hines, Chacho, Delaney and Datome with young people like Panther, Leday, and Shields. The coexistence of experience with the new blood. Our joy is that all the guys give everything every day and are good characters.”
He also shared big praise toward the owner Giorgio Armani who showed full support and put complete trust in the team.
“We passed after the match to thank him for his contribution and support. He gives us everything and is with us every day for anything. He showed devotion. When we came with Messina we could not make many changes, but this year the roster was what we wanted. The choices were right and it is proven by our course. We won the Italian Cup and Super Cup, we are in the Final Four and in the playoffs of the league. We deserved it not only in the five matches but for our entire course this season.”
