Kostas Kaimakoglou has announced his decision to retire via a post shared on the Lotsos Sports Facebook page.
Kaimakoglou, 38, spent the bottom end of his career at UNICS Kazan. He joined the Russian team in 2012 with his lengthy stint stretching to 2020-21. He logged four appearances between the 7DAYS EuroCup and VTB United League in his last season before deciding to move on from professional basketball.
Prior to the nine years at Kazan, he displayed his talents in his home country packing a series of solid campaigns in the Greek League. His Panathinaikos run from 2010 to 2012 was highlighted by the 2011 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague championship. From 2004 to 2010 he played for Maroussi after starting off at Near East from 2002 to 2004.
He competed in a total of 85 EuroLeague games with his efforts amounting to career averages of 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per contest. In addition, he made his way to 118 matches of the 7DAYS EuroCup.
Besides the achievements at the club level, Kaimakoglou also represented Greece in FIBA international competitions recording 94 appearances with the senior team and capturing the bronze medal in the 2009 EuroBasket.
Back in 2002, he was a member of the U20 squad winning the gold medal in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship hosted by Lithuania. His 2002 teammates Vassilis Spanoulis, Ioannis Bourousis, and tournament MVP Nikos Zisis also bowed out concluding their playing careers this summer.
