Isaac Bonga was one of the names expected to return to Europe and that’s the case with him having signed a two-year deal with Bayern Munich, as the club officially announced. Bonga – who is not available for the German national team in the upcoming Eurobasket due to an ankle injury – can make a new start with the German powerhouse.

After all, he is just 22 years old, however, last year he averaged just 0.8 ppg, 0.5 rpg, and 0.5 spg in 15 games with the Toronto Raptors. He was the 39th pick of the 2018 draft by the Lakers and moved directly to the NBA where he proved to be unready for the challenge.

In the G-League, as a member of the Raptors 905 he had a far bigger role and put up averages of 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.4 steals across 32 games.

In Europe, things are expected to be different and Bonga has proved with the German national team that he can be an asset. In four games in the Tokyo Olympics, he averaged 8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest.

As he said to the official Bayern Munich website: “After four exciting years in the NBA, in which I learned a lot, it was now time for a new chapter and Bayern is simply a very good organization. It offers you competition at a high level, especially with the EuroLeague. I think my strength is flexibility on defense as well as offense. I can defend positions one to five and just want to bring my game back to Germany.”
