With the regular season ending this week and two spots in the playoffs still open, things are quite simple today. Eurohoops presents the timeline of the day and how the result can affect the race.
First off, the round starts with Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet facing Fenerbahce BEKO in Belgrade. If Fenerbahce wins, then they qualify mathematically and clinched the fifth spot in the standings, facing fourth Monaco in the playoffs.
If Zvezda wins, then Fenerbahce would be even in danger of missing the playoffs, if Baskonia and Zalgiris also win their games, however, this can change in the next few minutes.
One hour after the tipoff in Belgrade, Olympiacos hosts Cazoo Baskonia. If the Reds win, then Olympiacos clinches the top spot, Fenerbahce is also qualified for the playoffs even if Zvezda beats them and Baskonia will be out, if Zalgiris beats Bayern Munich on the road tomorrow.
If Baskonia wins, then they are in the playoffs and if Fenerbahce has also secured the win in Belgrade, then Zalgiris is out, even with a win over Bayern.
Also if Baskonia prevailed, then the game that starts five minutes later in Tel Aviv gives the chance to Real Madrid to finish on top of the standings, if they get the road win. Also, Maccabi can end up being fifth with a win if Fenerhace is also defeated in Belgrade.
So it goes without saying that the game between Olympiacos and Baskonia is by far the most important of this round…
