Successful tactician Pablo Laso has been slated to return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and replace Andrea Trinchieri as the new head coach of FC Bayern Munich.

Following failed negotiations with Anadolu Efes, Laso was heading to the team based in Munich, Eurohoops reported last week. He will sign a three-year contract, according to Marca in confirmation of the earlier status update.

Laso, 55, parted ways with Real Madrid after the end of the 2021-22 season. The Whites cited medical reasons but the experienced play-caller instead declared himself fit with medical clearance to stay in his position. He was hospitalized and sidelined after suffering a heart attack during the 2022 ACB Playoffs. A few weeks later, he was back to celebrate with then interim head coach Chus Mateo and players for winning Spain’s Liga Endesa championship.

The Vitoria-Gasteiz native since seeking a suitable situation to resume his career leads him to Munich.

Trinchieri, 54, has been in charge of Bayern since the 2020-21 season. After reaching the EuroLeague Playoffs in 2021 and 2022, his side fell short of the same mark this season. The 11-23 finishing W-L tally ranked 15th overall and was eight games outside the top-eight zone leading from the Regular Season to the Playoffs.

Besides Laso being ready to succeed the Italian mastermind starting from the 2023-24 editions of Europe’s premier club continental competition and domestic competitions, the German club will also be heading to SAP Garden with the new venue to host at least 20 home games per season.
