Experienced playmaker Kostas Sloukas has shared his thoughts on the decision to part ways with Olympiacos

After three years in his second stint with the team, Kostas Sloukas and Olympiacos have agreed to go their separate ways. Despite numerous meetings, they were unable to reach an agreement, leading to the departure of the accomplished point guard.

Sloukas commented on his decision, stating that he feels he “hasn’t been able to inspire the same respect for everyone,” which seems directed at coach Georgios Bartzokas and a part of the club’s fans. The 33-year-old player also added that he leaves with a clear conscience.

In the life of an athlete, there are good and bad moments. During my three-year period in Olympiacos, after my return, we experienced a time full of titles and successes. We started with the team solely participating in the EuroLeague and ended with a back-to-back double in Greece, with fans following and supporting us everywhere.

We experienced recognition at the highest levels of the EuroLeague, established our presence in the Final Four, and gained acceptance from all opponents.

Today, our paths with Olympiacos are diverging. My deep respect for the Angelopoulos brothers was not forced; it was inspired. That’s why we spent so many hours searching for a solution in our recent meeting. We all shared the same goal within the team, and that’s how we moved forward and achieved success. Whether we were winning or losing, we did it together.

Given recent events, I feel that I haven’t been able to inspire the same respect from everyone. However, one sour note at the end does not overshadow three wonderful years. I leave with a sense of fulfillment and a clear conscience, knowing that I did my best and more to honor the jersey. I fought alongside my teammates, the fans, and the management, who trusted me during a challenging time for the organization. I hope I have given back as much as I could,” wrote Sloukas.

Fenerbahce and Partizan have expressed interest, with the Istanbul club already presenting an offer to their former player.
