After being named MVP of the Round for the first time in his career in this year’s Round 5 following a dominating 31-PIR and double-double performance against Baskonia, Mathias Lessort doubled up, being named EuroLeague Round of 21 MVP thanks to his contribution to the win over AS Monaco.

Pushing Panathinaikos in the comfortable 88-63 victory against the Monegasque team, the 28-year-old center was everywhere on the court for Ergin Ataman’s team, ending almost with a double-double of 23 points (career-high) and 9 rebounds for a complete 42 of PIR – another career-high.

The French MVP also had 5 assists and 3 steals, drawing 7 fouls while shooting 9/10 from two and 5/6 at the charity stripe in a total of 30:34 minutes of playing time. “It’s good to have numbers like that, especially coming back from an injury”, he first commented in the post-game flash interview.

Later on, he underlined his effort to play for the team’s sake. “I had some games where I struggled a lot and I’m still trying to get my rhythm back. So, games like that are good for my confidence. I don’t play for personal stuff. I want to play for winning teams and we are on the right path right now and that’s all that matters for me”, the former Partizan Belgrade player added.

Signing with the Greek powerhouse in the summer of 2023, Mathias Lessort is playing a hell of a season after his standout year with the Serbian team under Zeljko Obradovic. In Athens, he has been averaging 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game with Panathinaikos, shooting 64.6% from two-point range.
