With his debut pending, Saben Lee talked about joining Olympiacos.
“I’m just really excited to be here in Greece. I have been here a couple of days. I love the city. Seeing all the fans and the support, it has been awesome,” he told Greek public television, ERT, before a meeting with Peristeri Domino’s in Round 19 of the 2024-25 Stoiximan GBL Regular Season.
Lee, 25, has not been registered in the domestic squad and thus will not play on Sunday. Eventually on a new challenge, he is ready to work beyond taking over the offense, contrary to stints with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and especially with Manisa in the Basketball Champions League and Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi earlier this season.
“I’m just going to do whatever is asked from the coach. I’m definitely going to bring defensive presence, up the pace, give the ball where it needs to be. Just doing whatever it takes to win games,” he described his role with the Reds, “I definitely feel like I can score the ball at a high level. I just know that probably is not going to be the main thing here.”
Depending on potentially participating in team practice on Tuesday with the team guided by Giorgos Bartzokas, focusing preparations on Round 28 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, he might be cleared to debut against Partizan Mozzart Bet in the Peace and Friendship Stadium, SEF, on Friday. “I’m not sure yet when I will make my debut,” said Lee.
The new Olympiacos player logged 134 appearances in the NBA as a member of the Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns, and Philadelphia 76ers before expanding his career overseas during the offseason.
