Olympiacos Piraeus guard Thomas Walkup is travelling to Boston, USA where he’ll follow a special rehabilitation program for his lower back and sacroiliac joint problems. He’s accompanied by a member of the team’s medical staff.
The American guard and reigning EuroLeague Best Defender will remain out of action indefinitely as it’s unknown when he’ll be able to join Olympiacos once again.
Walkup last played in the EuroLeague early in January when he exited the game vs. Bayern Munich after 10 minutes due to lower back pain. He participated in the Greek League match at Panathinaikos Athens 10 days later and was then sidelined.
On February 13, Walkup returned to action very briefly in the Greek Cup quarterfinal game against Karditsa but only managed to play four minutes and has been out ever since.
In his fourth season with Olympiacos, Walkup is averaging 4.6 points, a team-high 4.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 21:18 minutes over 20 EuroLeague games.
