Virtus Segafredo Bologna officially confirmed Dusko Ivanovic as the head coach for the 2025-26 season.
The agreement to extend the contract of the 67-year-old tactician until June 30, 2026, was announced on Wednesday.
“I am very happy with the work he has done so far,” mentioned team president Massimo Zanetti, “He has a lot of experience, including in the EuroLeague. He knows how to deal with great players. The head coach is the most important person in the locker room.”
The Montenegrin play-caller took over the Black V last December. Earlier stints in Europe’s premier club continental competition ranged from Baskonia to Crvena Zvezda, Khimki, Panathinaikos, and FC Barcelona.
“The confirmation is an important step, especially heading to the last part of the season,” said general manager Paolo Ronci, “Looking into the next season with a contracted head coach, I think is excellent news that can help us work in the best way. I am happy with the relationship between our president and coach. This will allow us to work at our best, with stability, legitimacy, and technical power exclusively on the hands of the coach, inside the preset budget.”
The Bologna outfit has been eliminated from the 2025 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs. With two games left in the 2024-25 Regular Season, an 8-24 record sits 17th out of 18 teams.
“It has been a troubled year; the club’s destabilization began in June, and the press contributed to making the club’s management more difficult, which complicated the team’s morale,” explained Zanetti.
At 17-7 with six games left in Italy’s LBA UnipolSai Regular Season, Virtus is tied with Trapani Shark and Germani Brescia in first place of the standings.
