Mensah departs Olympiacos, while Maccabi Tel Aviv adds former player Tyus

After making just two EuroLeague and six Greek League appearances, Nathan Mensah has parted ways with OlympiacosThe Piraeus club announced the termination of its collaboration with the Ghanaian center, who is set to continue his career with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv.

Mensah is expected to sign a deal with the Israeli champions until the end of the season.

Olympiacos brought in the former Charlotte Hornets center to cover for injuries among the big men but he never really found his rhythm. Mensah featured briefly in two EuroLeague games, against Bayern and Zalgiris. In the Greek League, he played six matches, averaging 5.1 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Now, he’ll try to win the Israeli League with Maccabi.

Alex Tyus returns to Maccabi

Meanwhile, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv announced the return of veteran center Alex Tyus.

The 37-year-old is back for his third stint with the club he helped lead to a EuroLeague title in 2014, signing a deal through the end of the season.

Maccabi had been looking for a frontcourt reinforcement following the injury to Jasiel Rivero, ahead of the Israeli Championship Playoffs.

Tyus arrives from Italian side Varese, where he averaged 19 minutes per game, and will wear jersey No. 7.
