ECA Shareholders Executive Board Meeting - Euroleague Basketball

Monday’s EuroLeague meeting in Istanbul didn’t produce any news, with Real Madrid and Barcelona being absent, while the NBA and FIBA were represented

The EuroLeague clubs/shareholders met in Istanbul, but ultimately, the meeting didn’t result in any decision on all the league’s open matters.

The main topic of the meeting, the sale of a minority ownership stake to BC Partners, wasn’t completed, despite all involved parties being positive on this direction.

It remains to be seen if the discussions will be concluded in the board’s next meeting, which is expected before the upcoming EuroLeague Final Four.

Meanwhile, FIBA was once more present via the FIBA Europe executive director, Kamil Novak, and the NBA was represented by the managing director of NBA Europe and the Middle East, George Aivazoglou.

This can be considered one more effort for all major European stakeholders to move forward together, however, there’s no indication yet that this will happen.

Real Madrid and Barcelona representatives didn’t travel to Istanbul, and Barcelona followed the talks remotely.

Of course, in light of this situation, matters like the league expansion and the new licenses took a backseat again.
