Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet ruled out Joel Bolomboy for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, namely regional and domestic competitions.
The 31-year-old big was successfully operated on his injured foot in the United States on Wednesday, the team based in Belgrade announced on Thursday.
Bolomboy recently traveled to the States for further medical tests. At the top of the week, surgery was scheduled to address the nagging injury.
The setback occurred on March 13, during a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 29 affair opposite EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Belgrade Arena. The native of Donetsk previously averaged 10.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 0.9 blocks, and 0.6 assists per contest over 18 appearances, including 16 starts.
The team guided by Giannis Sfairopoulos has since completed the continental campaign. After ranking tenth in the 2024-25 EuroLeague Regular Season and entering the Play-In Showdown, a losing effort opposite FC Bayern Munich in SAP Garden marked elimination on April 15.
With Bolomboy remaining sidelined, Zvezda is heading to the 2025 Playoffs of the AdmiralBet ABA League as the fourth seed on the bracket and the 2025 Playoffs of the AdmiralBet Basketball League of Serbia as the second seed.
A former EuroLeague champion with CSKA in 2019 and a veteran of 189 games played in Europe’s premier club continental competition, he joined the club located in the Serbian capital before the 2023-24 season.
In the NBA to start his professional career from 2016 to 2018, he logged 20 appearances between the Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks. He went on to CSKA and Olympiacos, before moving to Zvezda.
