Panathinaikos Athens coach Ergin Ataman confirmed that star center Mathias Lessort will participate in the upcoming EuroLeague Final Four (23/5 – 25/5) in Abu Dhabi.
Lessort has been sidelined since December after suffering a broken fibula in a game vs. Baskonia.
“Mathias will play with us,” Ataman said to SKWEEK during the Media Day of Panathinaikos Saturday (10/5) when answered if Lessort will be with Panathinaikos in the Final Four. “Yes [he’s going to play]. Why not?”
Over the last couple of weeks, Panathinaikos had been cautiously optimistic regarding Lessort’s status and his potential participation in the Final Four. The French big man mentioned on Friday (16/5) that he’s practicing and preparing himself for the tournament but he’s still unsure whether he’ll actually play.
A two-time (2023, 2024) All-EuroLeague First Team member, Lessort posted 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in 32:30 during last season’s Final Four to help Panathinaikos win the seventh EuroLeague championship title in the history of the club.
