Tipping off arrivals for the Final Four of the 2024-25 edition of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague in Abu Dhabi, AS Monaco landed on Tuesday.
On Friday, La Roca Team faces Olympiacos, the team of head coach Vassilis Spanoulis from 2010 until the end of his legendary playing career in 2021.
A three-time champion as a player, Spanoulis was named in the All-25 EuroLeague Team during celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Europe’s premier club continental competition. The next step is adding to his success as a head coach.
“Everything is going good, but nothing is coming easy,” mentioned the 42-year-old Greek tactician.
“He knows a lot about the game. He won this multiple times. With his experience, the way he talked to us and the way he coached us daily, it’s going to help us a lot,” Elie Okobo referred to the advantage of working with Spanoulis, “We really have to lock in and respect the gameplan and all those things to be able to win Friday.”
Beyond the main storyline, Spanoulis versus Olympiacos, Mike James is set to lead Monaco on the court.
“Semifinal games are always a little bit nervy. So, whoever settles in and establishes their tempo faster, probably will be a good indication of the winner,” pointed out the 34-year-old combo guard.
“We know the job’s not done,” explained Alpha Diallo, “We’re happy to be here though. We’re going to enjoy the experience, but at the same time, we know we’re here for a reason.”
