After announcing his departure from the NBA following dark months conditioned by a severe state of his mental health and his short return to Europe with Barcelona, Ricky Rubio left the court at the end of the 2023-24 season, leaving uncertainty over his future within the sport.
After almost a year of pubic silence, the experienced 34-year-old playmaker has now released a critical message on his social media accounts, certainly not clearing everyone’s thoughts about his future.
“I took this year to reflect on my career and my life, and I’ve realized that if I’ve gotten to where I am today, it’s not because of the assists I’ve given, but because of the assists I’ve received,” he said.

“This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a thank you to all the people who have helped me along the way,” Ricky Rubio also added, hinting at a possible return to the court.
The Spanish point guard was in attendance to witness Pau Ribas’ latest game in Badalona with Joventut, watching his former team play in the ACB Playoffs against La Laguna Tenerife.
Rubio has played for Joventut Badalona from 2005 to 2009, before moving to Barcelona for two years and winning the EuroLeague in 2010. He moved to the NBA in 2011, spending time with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Utah Jazz, the Phoenix Suns, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
