Panathinaikos Athens star center Mathias Lessort got a basketball court named after him in the Le Morne-Vert commune in Martinique, where he grew up and made his hoops beginnings.
The court was inagurated Saturday (21/6) by Le Morne-Vert mayor Angele Serbin with Lessort in attendance. The 30-year-old big man posted a video and a picture from the ceremony on his Instagram profile.
Lessort was born and grew up in Martinique before he left for France at 15 years of age in 1990 to join the Elan Chalon academies. He made his professional debut with the team four years later.
Over the last couple of years, Lessort established himself as arguably the top center in the EuroLeague, being named to the All-First Team of the competition twice (2023, 2024) in a row. He helped Panathinaikos win the EuroLeague championship in 2024 after a 12-year drought.
This season, Lessort suffered a broken fibula in December that kept him out for several months until he returned to action in the EuroLeague semifinal loss to Fenerbahce Beko. He was ruled out for the remainder of the season in Greece.
