Crvena Zvezda is in advanced talks to sign Jasiel Rivero, a versatile center from Maccabi who can also play power forward, according to Meridian Sport.
Reportedly, negotiations are well underway, and the club is working to finalize the deal. This signing would continue Crvena Zvezda’s active summer in the transfer market.
Already in the squad are newcomers Ebuka Izundu and Chima Moneke, Semi Ojeleye as well.
Rivero has a strong resume, having won two Basketball Champions League titles with San Pablo Burgos, followed by two seasons with Valencia and two with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Rivero officially departs from Tel Aviv
Soon after news about negotiations with Crvena Zvezda broke, Maccabi Tel Aviv announced they are parting ways with the Cuban center.
“Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club thanks Hassiel Rivero and wishes him and his family success in their next step. The Cuban center, who won a championship, the State Cup, and the Winner Cup with the Yellow team, was part of the squad that finished the season in first place and was just one win away from another title before the decisive game was canceled.
Papi Rivero and his family became an inseparable part of the team over the past two years, and the center himself is considered a beloved player by Maccabi fans in general and within the club in particular.”
The Cuban player himself posted the following message on social media:
“Hello Maccabi family. Today I say goodbye to this club, this team, and this family that opened its doors to me and made me feel at home from day one. Thanks to every teammate, staff member, management, and every fan for so much affection, for so many shared struggles, and for every moment we experienced together on and off the court.”
“I take with me amazing memories, true friendships, and an experience I will never forget. This is not a farewell, but only the end of a wonderful chapter. I wish you all the best always. I will continue to support you from wherever I am. With all the respect, affection, and gratitude in me – Yalla Maccabi!”
