Despite achieving another success domestically, winning the ACB with a 3-0 sweep in the Finals against Valencia, Chus Mateo won’t reportedly continue being Real Madrid‘s head coach.
According to Noelia Gomez, the Spanish head coach has been informed by the Iberian powerhouse that the sides will be parting ways, despite Mateo having another year in his contract.
With a new era entering soon in Valdebebas, as Sergio “Chacho” Rodriguez is set to become the new sports director of the club, there might be a possible return on the bench for Los Blancos.
As reported by Marca, Sergio Scariolo is the main candidate to guide the Spanish club from the 2025-26 season, making a comeback to Madrid after already coaching Real from 1999 to 2002, with Chus Mateo already there as one of his assistant coaches.
Chus Mateo won’t reportedly be the only one leaving, as Paco Redondo and other members of Real Madrid‘s staff are expected to leave Valdebebas.
Since taking over by replacing Pablo Laso in the 2022-23 season, the 56-year-old Spanish head coach has successfully collected six trophies with Real Madrid, including the 2023 EuroLeague too.
