The EuroLeague is at a crossroads at the moment, with both Athens and Belgrade wanting to host the EuroLeague Final Four 2026, either in the Belgrade Arena or OAKA.

In the meantime, speaking to NOVA during the EuroLeague Head Coaches Board Congress, the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, confirmed the intention of the Greek capital to organize and host the biggest event of the year in Greece for the fourth time, after 1993, 2000, and 2007.

“From the very beginning, we have said that we want it. We support the effort that is being made, which is comprehensive, together with the State and the Ministry. We want it, and we have proven that we can host it. We have held top-notch events. And I think many years have passed since 2007,” he opened.

“The city has evolved, we have the best stadium, and we can manage to bring the next Final Four here. I think it will be a big deal for all of us. Last year we had the Conference League Final and I think it was a complete success. I think we have proven with all the major competitions that we can stand worthy and not only that, but also highlight this competition at the highest level.”

“We are basketball fans, our country, and Athens. As Mayor, I want to say that we are 100%-0%, but in life you always have to keep a backside. However, we want it very much, that’s the truth,” Haris Doukas concluded, confirming once again the city’s intention.
