After 23 years, in which he has coached at the highest level, Sergio Scariolo officially returned to Real Madrid, succeeding Chus Mateo on the Spanish capital’s club bench.
The Italian head coach previously coached Real from 1999 to 2002, and has now signed for the next three seasons, with the new contract expiring in June 2028.
Recently, Scariolo announced that EuroBasket 2025 will be his last event with the Spanish national team, with whom he has won several accomplishments at the highest level internationally.
Totally, he has collected 5 gold (2019 World Cup, Eurobasket 2009, Eurobasket 2011, Eurobasket 2015, and Eurobasket 2022), 1 silver (2012 London Olympic Games), and 2 bronze (2016 Rio Olympic Games and 2017 Eurobasket) medals.
Apart from coaching Spain, he also won the NBA Championship as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors, and also collected two ACB titles, one of them in 1999-00 with Real Madrid.
His last club was Virtus Bologna, where he won the 2021-22 BKT EuroCup.
