Valencia Basket is in advanced talks to bring Darius Thompson back to Spain, according to Encestando.
The American guard, who holds an Italian passport, has reportedly been told by Anadolu Efes that he is no longer in their plans, the Turkish club offered him a $300,000 buyout, while Valencia is prepared to put up a deal worth around $1.7 million net.
However, Baskonia still holds Thompson’s ACB rights after placing him on the “tanteo” list last summer. That gives them the option to match any offer made by another Spanish club if Thompson returns to the league. As reported, he Vitoria club may find Valencia’s financial offer difficult to match.
Thompson is a highly valued asset, particularly because of his EU passport, which allows him to avoid occupying a non-EU spot.
Thompson played for Baskonia until 2023 before signing with Efes, where he spent two seasons. He remains one of the most sought-after guards on the market.
