Baskonia won’t match the offer that Valencia made for guard Darius Thompson, according to Kiroleros of Radio Marca Vitoria. The deadline officially expires Thursday (17/7), 23:59 (CET).
As multiple Basque media report, Valencia presented an offer of more than €9.5 million (gross) for the next three years to Thompson, a deal which makes him one of the highest-paid players in the EuroLeague. Baskonia is unable to match that number and the player will continue his career with the Taronja.
According to the Tanteo rules of the Spanish ACB, Baskonia had the right of first refusal for any offer made to Thompson by a team of the league, since the player was a member of the Basque side in 2022-23.
Thompson will be returning to Spain after spending the previous two season with Anadolu Efes in Turkey. In 2024-25, he posted 9.5 points, 4.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds in the EuroLeague as the team made the playoffs and was eliminated 3-2 by then-defending champion Panathinaikos Athens.
During his stint with Baskonia, Thompson was named to the All-EuroLeague Second Team.
