Ending a six-year experience in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, Vlatko Cancar is making his return to Europe, signing officially on a multi-year agreement with Milan.
This will be his debut season in the EuroLeague, as the Slovenian forward has never spent time on EuroLeague courts in his career. Until today, when his move to the Italian side was made official.
Contributing to winning the NBA Championship in 2023, being drafted with the 49th overall pick by Denver in the 2017 NBA Draft, he has averaged 3.4 points per game over the course of his NBA career.
“I’m thankful to Olimpia for giving me the opportunity to join this club so rich in history and tradition,” Vlatko Cancar first commented on Milan’s official website.
“I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, work hard and make all the sacrifices necessary to achieve great things, and over time, maybe, have my name on the Olimpia Hall of Fame Wall. I’m happy to wear the Olimpia jersey and will do whatever it takes to well represent this club and this city.”
Unfortunately, despite being only 28 years old, he missed the entire 2023-24 season and played only 13 official games in 2024-25 with the Nuggets due to a severe knee injury.
Before moving to Denver, he started his career in Olimpija Ljubljana before playing two years in Mega Belgrade and one season with San Pablo Burgos in 2018-19.
In 2017, he was also part of the Slovenian national team’s roster that was capable of winning the gold medal at FIBA EuroBasket 2017, writing his country’s basketball history.
