The president of Crvena Zvezda, Željko Drčelić, addressed recent speculation regarding contract offers and transfers involving Filip Petrušev, Vasa Micić, and Marko Gudurić.
While the club showed willingness to negotiate and invest, several factors beyond their control influenced the outcomes.
There has been significant talk about Filip Petrušev’s future, which is now linked to Dubai BC.
“Thanks to Filip for everything he gave to Zvezda, and thanks also for his sincere desire and promise to stay. We did everything on our part, including agreeing to pay the buyout. But in the meantime, some things happened — things beyond anyone’s control. He made the decision to leave for personal and family reasons, and I won’t go into that. It’s something I have to respect, and I’m not going to judge him,” Drčelić said to Meridian Sport.
Regarding the club’s pursuit of Vasa Micić and Marko Gudurić, the president was candid about the financial realities at play.
“I’ll be clear and to the point: we wanted both of them, and we were ready to stretch our limits financially. But what we could offer wasn’t even close to what they got in Milan and Tel Aviv. As president, it’s my job to build the strongest possible team while keeping the club financially stable and responsible. They made the choices they felt were best for their families and careers — and I sincerely wish them all the best,” Crvena Zvezda‘s president concluded.
