Real Madrid announces a one-year contract extension with 37-year-old Sergio Llull

Confirming recent reports and his lasting connection with Real Madrid, Sergio Llull re-signed for the 2025-26 season, the team announced on Thursday.

Per the press release: Real Madrid C.F. has reached an agreement with Sergio Llull for the extension of our captain’s contract, which ties him to the club for the 2025-2026 season.

With a total of 19 seasons, Sergio Llull is the player who has worn the Real Madrid shirt for the longest period in the club’s history. Since joining in 2007, he has won 29 titles: three European Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, nine La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles, and nine Spanish Super Cup titles.

Our captain will play for Real Madrid for another year, thus prolonging one of the most brilliant careers in European basketball.”

In the 2024-25 journey as the captain of Los Blancos, Llull averaged 6.6 points, 2.2 assists, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.4 steals per EuroLeague contest over 40 appearances, including three starts. En route to his ninth ACB championship, he added 8.6 points, 2.3 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game over 40 appearances.

The roster for the team guided by new head coach Sergio Scariolo currently consists of officially confirmed newcomers in David Kramer and Theo Maledon, alongside Alberto Abalde, Facundo Campazzo, Gabriel Deck, Andres Feliz, Bruno Fernando, Usman Garuba, Mario Hezonja, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, and Walter Tavares. Reinforcements are considered likely, especially following reported links to Gabriele Procida, Chuma Okeke, and Lonnie Walker IV.
